History
1840 A new hotel was brought up on the grounds of Vila Rica, the so-called capital of the state of Minas Gerais back at the time. Some time later, they would start to run out of gold and Belo Horizonte would then become the new capital of the state. The neoclassic hotel named Largo do Rosário was then deactivated and divided into three houses, each of them occupying one floor. In time, the place was abandoned, and it became shelter for people who traveled and visited the city. They’d stay on the higher floors, while their horses would get some rest on an improvised stable on the lower floor. But time and disregard were implacable to the old house, and it was nearly destroyed.
1980 There was then the sudden interest in turning it into a hotel again, since Ouro Preto, nominated as Historical Patrimony, was then the spot for world-wide attention, attracting thousands of tourists every year. An unwearyingly historical research was then begun, through the history of the city and of the hotel, with documents, painting and photographs. From the front that’s over one century old, all of the features were carefully preserved, as well as the English gates that surrounded the balconies all around the building. The windows were faithfully reproduced. The color of the original building was obtained through a delicate rasping of fragments of the walls.
1994 The historical Monteiro Hotel, from the 19th century, finally opens up its doors in December of 1994, having its name changed to Solar do Rosário.
2002 In 2002, the structure of the Solar do Rosário Hotel is amplified, with new apartments on the outhouse represented by the next-door house to the main house.
2007 In 2007, the Solar do Rosário Hotel gets modified again, getting back some of the composing items of the old house in the 19th century, suppressed on the reform in 1980, which were the beautiful balustrade made of pine, that was placed on the stairway that led to the higher floors and the floor of hydraulic bricks.
2009 Finally, the SOLAR gets back all of its splendor of over a century old, being part of the modern building of the 21st century.
